Residential Garage Project:
30′ x 48′ Pole Barn
Clayton, Wisconsin
Project Overview:
This 30′ x 48′ pole barn was custom designed as a high-end garage for an upscale rural property. The homeowner did not want a basic storage building or a simple place to park equipment. They wanted a polished, custom garage that looked right next to a premium home and felt like a permanent, intentional part of the property.
The finished building combines the strength and flexibility of post-frame construction with the curb appeal of a high-end residential garage. The white steel sidewalls, black roof, 6′ x 40′ side porch, 6/12 roof pitch, eyebrow overhang, and custom C.H.I. overhead door all work together to give the building a clean, upscale look. It is still a practical garage, but it has the kind of design details that make it stand out.
Walters Buildings also handled this as a turnkey project, coordinating much more than the building shell. Our scope included the post-frame structure, reinforced concrete slab, insulation, heating/HVAC, interior liner steel, and overhead doors. That allowed the homeowner to work with one experienced builder instead of piecing together multiple parts of the project on their own.
The interior was designed to be bright, durable, and comfortable. Six 5′ x 2′ vinyl windows above the porch bring natural light into the space, while the insulated and heated interior makes the garage far more usable throughout the year. The steel liner package gives the inside a clean, finished appearance while providing a durable surface that can handle real garage and workshop use.
This project is a strong example of how a custom pole barn garage can add both function and value to a rural property. With the right design, a post-frame building can do more than provide storage. It can complement the home, improve the property, and create a flexible space for vehicles, equipment, hobbies, and everyday use.

The Building:
This 30′ x 48′ custom pole barn garage features a 14’4″ eave height, a 6/12 main roof pitch, and a 4/12 porch roof pitch. The steeper main roof gives the building a stronger residential profile, while the lower porch roof creates a welcoming sidewall entrance and adds depth to the exterior design.
The building includes a 6′ x 40′ side porch, giving the garage more character and making it feel like part of the property rather than a simple utility building. Above the porch is a row of six 5′ x 2′ vinyl windows, bringing natural light into the building and creating a clean, balanced look from the outside.
The front of the building features a 12′ x 13′ C.H.I. overhead door with an eyebrow overhang above it. That detail helps frame the garage door and adds a high-end architectural touch to the building. On the opposite end, an 8′ x 8′ C.H.I. overhead door provides drive-thru access, while two 3′ x 5′ vinyl single-hung windows on the backside add light and ventilation.
Custom Features:
- High-End Residential Appearance: White steel sidewalls and black roof create a sharp black-and-white exterior that pairs well with a premium rural home.
- 6′ x 40′ Side Porch: The long porch adds depth, character, and a more finished look to the building.
- Custom C.H.I. Overhead Door: The 12′ x 13′ front overhead door is one of the standout design elements, giving the garage a polished, high-end appearance.
- Eyebrow Overhang: The overhang above the main garage door frames the entrance and helps the front elevation feel more custom.
- Natural Light: Six 5′ x 2′ vinyl windows above the porch bring daylight into the garage while enhancing the exterior design.
- Additional Rear Access: An 8′ x 8′ overhead door on the back of the building improves functionality and makes it easier to move items in and out.
- Steel-Lined and Insulated Interior: Walters Buildings liner steel gives the inside of the garage a clean, durable, finished surface, while insulation helps make the space more comfortable for year-round use.
- Reinforced Concrete Slab: The building was completed on a 4″ reinforced concrete slab for a strong, reliable working surface.
- Attic Access: Interior attic access adds practical storage and serviceability.
