Residential Building Project:

Luxury Timber Frame Home with Expansive Views

Waddy, Kentucky

Project Overview:

Built in 2018 on a scenic rural Kentucky property, this award-winning 60′ x 40′ timber frame home shows how post-frame construction can deliver both architectural beauty and everyday function. Recognized with 1st Place in Residential Buildings at the 2018 National Frame Building Association Awards, this project stands as a strong example of how Walters Buildings can blend structural performance with high-end residential design. Long before barndominiums became a trend, it combined the strength and flexibility of a post-frame structure with the warmth and comfort of a custom country home.

Set alongside a large equestrian operation and riding arena, the home was designed to feel right at home in its surroundings. The exterior combines a bronze roof, an 8/12 roof pitch, beige siding, and rich red shake-style accent siding to create a look that is both rustic and refined. Timber frame detailing adds character, while the overall design gives the building a timeless residential feel rather than a utilitarian barn look.

One of the standout features is the enclosed glass porch at the rear of the home, which adds natural light, extends the living space, and creates a comfortable place to take in views of the surrounding property. From the wraparound porch to the carefully balanced exterior finishes, every detail works together to create a custom timber frame home that feels welcoming, durable, and built for country living.

The Building:

This custom post-frame home features a timber frame structure with exposed trusses and post-and-beam elements that define both the exterior and interior aesthetic.

The exterior blends natural materials and clean lines, while the home’s orientation takes full advantage of the surrounding landscape. A covered porch wraps the structure, creating seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor living.

On the rear of the home, large floor-to-ceiling windows open up the living space to expansive countryside views, filling the interior with natural light and reinforcing the connection to the property.
