Residential Garage Project:

36′ x 50′ Metal Garage

Hustisford, Wisconsin

Project Overview:

This 36′ x 50′ metal garage was custom designed to match a brand new custom home. The homeowners did not want a basic storage building or a standard detached garage. They wanted a durable, functional garage that matched the character of their home and felt like a permanent, intentional part of the property.

The home features black LP SmartSide board-and-batten siding with cedar columns and decorative trusses. To complement that look, Walters Buildings used JWS black steel siding with a copper roof, copper trim, copper gutters, and copper downspouts. The black steel gives the garage a clean, modern profile, while the copper accents bring warmth and tie beautifully into the cedar details on the home.

This project is a strong example of how a metal garage can work next to a premium residence. Instead of looking industrial or out of place, the building uses color, roof pitch, trim, doors, and architectural details to create a polished custom look. The matching Clopay Canyon Ridge garage doors, two eyebrow overhangs, faux bale door with copper crossbucks, side porch, and cupolas with eagle weathervanes all help the building feel refined and residential.

The result is a 36′ x 50′ garage that provides practical space while adding to the overall property. It has the strength and low-maintenance benefits of a steel-sided post-frame building, but with the curb appeal and detail expected next to a custom home. For homeowners searching for a metal garage that does not look like a metal box, this project shows what is possible with the right design.

The Building:

The 36′ x 50′ x 10′ metal garage was designed as a custom post-frame building with the durability of steel and the appearance of a high-end residential outbuilding. The size provides practical garage and storage space, while the 6/12 main roof pitch gives the building a stronger architectural profile than a standard detached garage.

The exterior uses JWS black steel siding with a copper steel roof and matching copper trim. That color combination was selected to complement the homeowner’s custom home, which features black board-and-batten siding with warm cedar accents. The black steel creates a similar vertical look, while the copper roof and trim bring warmth to the building and help it feel connected to the rest of the property.

The front of the garage includes two 10′ x 9′ Clopay Canyon Ridge overhead doors, giving the building convenient vehicle access while adding a more finished residential appearance. Along the sidewall, the porch creates a protected entry area with a walk door and window, adding function while softening the overall look of the metal garage.

Custom Features:

  • Built to Match the Home: This custom metal garage was designed to complement a high-end black board-and-batten home with cedar accents. The JWS black steel siding mirrors the home’s dark vertical siding, while the copper roof and trim tie into the warmth of the cedar columns and decorative trusses.
  • Two Clopay Canyon Ridge Garage Doors: The two 10′ x 9′ Clopay Canyon Ridge overhead doors add a warm, residential look to the front of the garage. Their wood-look finish helps soften the steel exterior and visually connects the garage to the home’s cedar details.
  • Eyebrow Overhangs Above Each Garage Door: Each garage door includes its own eyebrow overhang with a 6/12 pitch. These overhangs add depth to the front elevation and help the garage look more architectural than a standard metal garage.
  • Two Cupolas with Eagle Weathervanes: The roofline is finished with two windowed cupolas, each topped with an eagle weathervane. These details reinforce the classic barn-inspired look while giving the building a polished, finished profile.
  • Faux Bale Door with Copper Crossbucks: The front gable includes a faux bale door with copper crossbucks. This decorative feature adds character to the gable end and helps break up the tall front wall with a traditional barn detail.
  • Side Porch Entry: The side porch creates a welcoming entry point along the sidewall. With a 3/12 porch roof pitch, walk door, and window, this area adds both function and curb appeal to the building.
  • High-End Metal Garage Design: Every detail works together to show that a 36×50 metal garage does not have to look basic or industrial. With the right siding, roof, doors, trim, and custom accents, a steel-sided garage can look right at home next to a premium custom residence

Make it Your Own

A custom metal garage can do more than add storage. With the right design, it can look like it was always meant to be part of your property. This project shows how Walters Buildings can design a steel-sided garage that complements a high-end custom home instead of looking like a separate utility building.

Whether you need a 36′ x 50′ metal garage, a smaller detached garage, or a larger building for vehicles, equipment, hobbies, or storage, Walters Buildings can help you create a structure that fits your needs and your property.

Ideal Applications:

  • Custom metal garage
  • Detached garage designed to match your home
  • Hobby or workshop space
  • Vehicle and equipment storage
  • High-end residential storage building
  • Post-frame garage with custom exterior details

Why Walters Buildings:

  • Experienced Planning Process: From early design conversations through final construction, Walters helps customers make practical decisions about access, layout, materials, colors, and long-term usability.
  • Custom Post-Frame Construction: Post-frame design gives homeowners flexibility with size, roof pitch, door placement, porches, windows, storage needs, and exterior style.
  • Engineered Steel: Walters Buildings uses 28-gauge structural JWS steel panels with an minimum steel strength of 80,000 PSI, G-90 galvanizing, a BeckryTech paint system, and a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating. For homeowners comparing metal garages, the steel specification matters. Thicker, stronger, better-protected steel helps the building resist dents, weather, rust, and long-term wear while maintaining a clean, high-end appearance.
  • Built Around Your Property: A detached garage should not feel like an afterthought. Walters designs buildings around the site, the home, the driveway, the intended use, and the overall appearance of the property.
  • Quality Materials and Craftsmanship: Walters combines engineered post-frame construction, quality steel, strong framing, and experienced crews to create buildings that are made to last.
  • More Than a Metal Garage: Many companies can sell a basic metal garage. Walters Buildings can help design and build a custom garage that adds usable space, improves the property, and looks like it belongs there.
