Residential Storage Project:

40′ x 64′ Pole Barn | Elevated Storage with Custom Design Details

Paris, Kentucky

Project Overview:

Set alongside a newly built home in Paris, this custom pole barn was designed to complement the property while providing dedicated space for equipment and storage. Rather than treating the building as purely utilitarian, the design carries through architectural elements from the home, creating a cohesive look across the site.

With a focus on both function and visual detail, the structure balances everyday storage needs with features that elevate its overall appearance.

The Building:

This 40′ x 64′ x 16′ post-frame building offers ample interior space for storing equipment, vehicles, and recreational gear. A 6/12 roof pitch paired with a gable truss system provides strong structural performance while giving the building a more prominent roofline.

The exterior features black steel siding with a gray roof, complemented by custom cedar elements that tie into the adjacent home. A lean-to extends from the side of the building, supported by cedar posts and enhanced with recessed lighting to create a functional covered area.

Polycarbonate panels installed under the eaves introduce natural light into the interior, reducing reliance on artificial lighting during the day.

Custom Features:

  • Roof Design: A 6/12 gable roof pitch with a gable truss system provides structural strength while creating a more defined architectural profile
  • Exterior Finish: Black steel siding paired with a gray roof delivers a bold, low-maintenance exterior that complements the surrounding property
  • Sliding Cedar Doors: Custom wood sliding doors create a distinctive visual feature while concealing traditional overhead doors behind them
  • Lean-To Addition: A side lean-to supported by cedar posts adds covered outdoor space for equipment storage or sheltered use
  • Integrated Lighting: Recessed lighting under the lean-to enhances visibility and usability during evening hours
  • Natural Light Panels: Polycarbonate panels under the eaves allow daylight into the interior, improving visibility throughout the day
  • Cupolas with Weathervanes: Twin cupolas add ventilation and a traditional design element that elevates the building’s overall look
  • Interior Capacity: The 40′ x 64′ layout provides flexible space for equipment, vehicles, and general storage needs
