Agriculture Building Project:

48′ x 80′ Equipment Storage | Vintage Tractor Collection

Fond du Lac, Wisconsin

Project Overview:

Set in the countryside near Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, this custom equipment storage pole barn was designed around something more personal than everyday farm machinery. The owner wanted a dedicated home for a collection of restored vintage tractors and other equipment—a building that would protect the collection while looking completely at home in its rural setting.

Rather than treating the project like a basic machine shed, Walters Buildings designed a traditional agricultural building with considerably more character. The red steel exterior, white trim, twin cupolas and barn-inspired detailing give the structure a timeless appearance, while carefully selected doors and windows make the building feel purposeful rather than purely utilitarian.

The finished 48′ x 80′ post-frame building gives the owner a large, open space where his tractors can be stored, maintained and enjoyed as a collection. Just as importantly, the building became part of the property itself. Surrounded by open fields and mature trees, it has the look of a classic Wisconsin barn while providing the clear-span space and functionality of a modern equipment storage building.

The Barn:

At 48′ wide by 80′ long with a 12′ interior height, this 3,840-square-foot post-frame building provides an open, flexible space for the owner’s tractor and equipment collection. 48′ clear-span engineered wood trusses eliminate the need for interior columns, leaving the entire floor area available for storage, display and maneuvering equipment. The building features a 6/12 roof pitch, 2′ overhangs on all four sides, and structural engineering for a 40 PSF ground snow load.

The exterior combines Walters Red 28-gauge G-90 steel siding with a black steel roof and white trim for a traditional agricultural look. Five 4′ x 3′ horizontal sliding windows bring natural light into the building, while a walk door, one 10′ x 10′ overhead door, and two 8′ x 8′ overhead doors provide access from three sides of the structure.

Walters also coordinated the concrete package, including the 6″ reinforced concrete floor, perimeter grade-beam foundation and vapor barrier. By coordinating both the building construction and major subcontracted components, Walters gave the owner a more streamlined path from an empty site to a finished equipment-storage building.

Custom Features:

  • Widow’s Peak Gable: A raised widow’s peak at the front gable gives the barn a distinctive traditional profile.
  • Full-View Overhead Doors: Two 8′ x 8′ Clopay Model 904 doors feature black anodized frames and insulated tempered glass.
  • Carriage-Style End Door: A 10′ x 10′ Clopay Coachman door in Walters Red with white crossbucks creates a traditional barn-door look.
  • Faux Hayloft Door: A fixed 4′ x 4′ Dutch-style door in the front gable adds traditional agricultural character.
  • Twin Cupolas & Weathervanes: Two 3′ x 3′ windowed cupolas, each topped with a cow weathervane.
  • Gooseneck Lighting: Black exterior sconces accent the doors and windows and complement the black roof.
